Who's responsibility is it to chase up a missing item buyer/seller?

Yes you did - but did you also think it was necessary to add the following insult? Because at the time I was trying to explain the item had gone from Vic to NSW (Chullora) not Vic Chullora and now it's gone back to Vic. I found this odd because I have never dealt with a situation such as this before.
It seems like you are going to hang the seller regardless of any advice you've been given here, so why not just speed things up and get it over with. I'm sure the seller will be grateful when you trash their account and risk their selling privileges.
I may add I never at anytime suggested hanging the seller or trashing their account or risking their selling privileges, I did say I was concerned they were passing the buck and not interested when I contacted them for the tracking number. To suggest what you have I find offensive.

So your comment about opening a not received dispute was just peeing in the wind?
Keep digging.

This is what I said - Now isn't that what any buyer would do if the item they have paid for doesn't turn up? I also explained the seller showed no interest or concern so not much point in contacting the seller again. I have the tracking number so if the item doesn't show up in the required waiting time I shall take the necessary action to get a refund.
OK thanks, I contacted the seller and told her what i've told you here I asked if she would contact Sunshine West where it appears the parcel was last scanned and see if she can find out what's happened to it. But, she's telling me I have to do that. So I will leave it to her and if it doesn't appear I will contact paypal for a charge back.

You are special and I think many others would agree.
You are complaining that the item hasn't turned up on the FIRST DATE of eBay's estimates. Not that it is overdue, not that there is no point in disputing anything at this point, just that you think eBay and/or the seller have some level of control over Australia Post.
You have been told numerous times that the seller or the buyer will not be able to initiate a lost item request as the item is not lost. You have been told numerous times to wait for the item to be delivered.
You are probably not aware that if the seller posted with tracking within their handling time, they have seller protection. In which case any refund you get (debatable) will be at the expense of the eBay seller community.

it's usually the sellers who sell a couple of items a weeks who seldom bother with the finer points of being a good seller.

2 hrs ago at message 35 I said ""Thanks penny, now that I know they are sorting centres I will give it another week""
Because I made the mistake of saying I would include the tracking number for buyers if I was a seller you decide to take offence - move along there's nothing to see here.
Take offence? LOL serious you are not as important as you think you are. You want to pick out 1 small statement where you said thank you for 1 of the many pieces of good advice you got. So getting up on your high horse about a parcel that had been in the postal system for 3 days, blaming a seller and trashing them for something that a) is not even wrong b) even if it was wrong is out of the sellers hands.
Before you start trashing someone try to take 2 minutes to actually take some time to learn how things work because you seriously have no clue and if you don't (which I am sure you want) do not be surprised when people do not agree with you

As an aside, rather than the package actually travelling back and forth it would most probably be the barcode jammed in a scanner (or data dump) that is the problem.
Sometimes a barcode 'jams" and stays in a scanner even though the scanner info has been dumped, cleared and reset.
This then wrongly records the location of an item and therefore the package becomes "hidden' from the delivery process
It is not until somebody actually tweeks that the manual count does not match the scan that the package (or barcode) is
actually 'found" and added to the delivery manifest
Unfortunately sometimes that does take weeks.

Penny, Many thanks on behalf of we smaller sellers. I always add a tracking number at he same time I'm leaving feedback. It saves a lot of time and trouble if the buyer has the tracking number so if an item goes MIA, at least they can see where it is.

Some say snail mail is a relic of the past. But in the great state of Tasmania, it is very much alive and well โ at least for now.
The postal union is calling on authorities to save a giant panda snail that was intercepted by quarantine staff across the Bass Strait, arguing it would make an ideal mascot for the beleaguered Australia Post service.
The plus-size snail, estimated to be worth about $40, was discovered by a package inspector on Thursday, the ABC reported. It was said to be among an increasing number of live creatures illegally sent to the island using Express Post.
The snail was expected to be euthanisedโ in forthcoming days.
But the Communications Electrical and Plumbing Union โ with a shrewd eye for a stunt, to be sure โ has demanded the creature be rescued and put to work.
"He'd be a wonderful mascot, a symbol of what Australia Post stands for: he's expensive, slow and endangered," said national secretary Greg Rayner. The union said talks were underway "at the highest levels" to secure the snail's release

Sounds like it's been mis-sorted along the line somewhere. I had one parcel going Vic to Vic which detoured to S.A. And then back to Vic. Ring AP 13 13 18 and see if they can help locate it and why it has gone back to Vic.
