Non Paying Bidders

Ebay is severely broken as a selling tool.

Almost 40% of my listings end with a non paying bidder.

As a seller I can't leave negative feedback and non paid item strikes act as no detternt to these people. Im hard pressed trying to see where these strikes appear on their profiles anyway. Lots of buyers never leave feedback anyway so the whole system is a joke.

Unpaid item cases mean that my item is lost in the void for eight days whilst a case is open. 99% of these end in non payment.

Im loosing money as by the time the case is resolved. the second highest bidder has usually bought a simlair item somewhere else.

I know Ebay has to look after buyers, but without equal treatment for sellers. There will be no items for anyone to purchase.

Re: Non Paying Bidders

penny, I count at least 12 posts that would not be here had joe not posted about me having the decency not to mention the site name and it being a hacking site, 13 if you include this one!

joe, I know you feel strongly about this, we all get that, but when you do post to reaffirm your opposition to that site being used it will generate more posts related to that.  I am in no way telling you not to post, this is a public forum and you have the right to continue to voice your opposition, just as others have the right to refute the information in your posts e.g. the hacking claim, and your reasoning for why I didn't name the site

Additionally, I use that site to see how many watchers there are on the items I am bidding on and do not use that site to snoop on forum posters, and I doubt others use it to snoop, that site is generally only used to assist posters who are asking for help but not supplying enough information for appropriate advice to be given and that is not snooping.

If any member is avoiding posting here because of fear of others snooping on their buying then just get a posting ID if it is a concern.  joe, you make a good case for having a posting ID.

12?  just kidding.  12 is a referecnce to posts some time back about none of us knowing who is actually posting.  I think I said that TB might actually be a 12 y.o. girl and not a grown man.

Re: Non Paying Bidders

let me explain something to you penny , anybody should be able to come on these boards with there id , and post ,   more and more posters are asking but how did they know what i brought ,   all its going to do in advertising it ,its going to mushroom out.

if you have some info on something an op has brought ,ask permision from the op to disclose it ,or keep it to your self, i dont care if its legal or not , its private  ala private to that person.

i will tell you a story about 10 years ago i was a magor poker player in australia and a bit overseas  most poker players in australia would know joethenuts, in fact a few poker sites online would sponser me by wearing there apparel  no big deal.

one day a player came up to me and said i did not know you were taking up acting   ,  then at crown 1 day i was having a coffee not in the poker room and on every screen around there was a crown add for the on coming aussie millions championship ,and who was on that add for 19 of the 20 second add, correct me  ,with the add me on a table colecting chips on a tournament i won and the add would say this could be you.   [i went down to find out what the hell is my face doing in a comercial i knew nothing about,  i explained what if my family did not know i was involved in poker  or what if my family did not know i was hanging out at crown, how can you film me winning a tournament and showing it  whithout my permision. they said if you look at the entry conditions we can do it.[ala fine print]

and sure enough it was there, but i said listen i am going to ask you nicely take it off ,because i dont like it ,because its not right.if you had of asked then thats another thing.  and they took it off .

i used to do a colum in pokernetwork  maybe they thought we better do what joe says.

and thats the story maybe ask first.

Re: Non Paying Bidders

As far as I know, I've never posted anything from any of those sites Joe, I believe strongly in personal privacy and wouldn't do that on principal.  If you believe I have, I give permission for you to post the evidence here.

I was merely pointing out that the very reason you were quoting for why these sites should not be allowed, is one of the reasons why people use posting IDs.  Privacy on the internet is a bit of an oxymoron. The first rule of the internet, and the one thing all parents should be impressing on their children when they start using the net, is that you should never give out personal information.  That is why eBay gives us the option to protect our privacy by using an anonymous posting ID.  As someone who has been stalked online, had my private life made public, and had a tissue of lies spread about me and been subjected to a long running tirade of email abuse and bullying, I very much appreciate the option to keep my trading and my forum activity separate.

Cheers,

Penny

Re: Non Paying Bidders

Back to the original topic (sorry, idk what you guys are arguing about . . . I'll just steer clear Smiley LOL ), I always feel really smug when I check my buyer activity log and see all of those blocked buyers with "too many unpaid item strikes".

My log has been pretty quiet of late. I think that's a good thing? The ones that get me are those with say 6 feedback and "too many unpaid strikes". Very concerning!

I've had a few people looking like not paying lately. Lower feedback buyers (under 30). Opening a dispute must have scared the heck out of them because they all paid within a few hours!

Joe, were you aware that it's against forum rules to post an item number? Same as it is for people to post obscure messages so they can name and shame someone (not saying you do that).

Do you now understand why myself an others choose to use a posting ID? That said, I couldn't care less whether people know that I just bought a DVD box set or a new shower cap. But, there are other things that I don't particularly want the snoops on here to know what I've bought. Being a seller, I can't make my feedback private.
