Selling account restricted permanently

Hi all,

My selling privileges were restricted yesterday because of the new ebay ratings. My DSR was very good but i had several cancelled transactions because of an item that i ran out of stock.

I know that i should not have something listed that i did not have avaialble however this was only for a short period (7 days). Most of the buyers were happy to wait for this dvd but there were some that wanted it cancelled and refunded. Now i feel like i should not have communicated to these buyers as i would not be in the position i am in right now. But yes, i advised all these buyers that i ran out of this title and i would have it within 7 days but i am happy to refund it if required.

I have never used the ebay inventory manager tool as i have my own system that i pay a subscription for to manage my stock levels and ordering.

I contacted Ebay customer service yesterday and was advised from their call centre in the Phillipines that this decision was final and irreversable. I argued that i was a loyal ebay customer for 10 plus years. Had paid all my fees (approx $500.00 per month) on time without delay, had feedback of >99% and my DSR's were of a high standard. I also mentioned that my rating changed on 20/08/14 and that i had 20 days to try and fix this before my account was suspended. Their response to this was "we understand but the decision is final". I then asked to be transferred to comeone who was based in Australia and who had the authority to do something about this. The response was that they support the Australian opertations and there was no one else i could contact.

I have sent an email via Ebay last night in the hope that it would get escalated somewhere but the call centre i spoke with.

Has anyone else been in this position and if so who did you contact and what was the outome?

Help and assistance needed please?

Regards

John (In2 DVD)

No, i acknowledge that having items listed that i did not have is wrong. However let me be very clear on this, of the 700 listings i can assure you that i have 695 in stock now.
I have sent an email to ebay advising that if my account is reinstated that i would use the inventory tool.
And does this warrant permanent suspension???

I am guessing you never actually got to speak to someone in trust and safety? They say that you cannot speak to them on the phone but if you push it enough you can get them to speak to someone in trust and safety. Why is cancelling a transaction worse than not supplying at all? It's crazy - ask them why the good guys are obviously not supplying their inventory and have fresh listings up today?

Seriously, nobody in their right mind can think this is ok to punish you so severely for doing the right thing and cancelling, do eBay suggest you cop negs instead? That seems to be the answer.

No! i was more ignorant to think these cancelled transactions would not affect the account. I was silly to think i would be fine, however i do think that my feedback of 99.6 of 12000 plus transactions counts or something as well. ebay always harped on about feedback and let me tell you that i worked very hard to get that score.

You are still not understanding! I manage my inventory outside of ebay and pay good money to do so. This means i do not use the ebay inventory tool as this to me would be double handling. So everything i have is listed and a large amount so i do not have to relist because i sold too many. I get emails telling me an item sold and i need to keep checking that the item is still listed.
I have done this for about 4 years without any issues and 95% of buyers are happy to wait. My feedback was 99.6, do you realise what this means? And on top of this, i was not selling 5 items per day like yourself so as your business grows it becomes more time consuming and more difficult to manage.
I would love to have the time to review every ebay policy that comes out, see how this affects me and take action but unfortunately i dont.

Do you really think it's okay to make false promises to customers about posting the next day, and then tell them AFTER they buy that they'll have to wait a week or so?  Do you really think the 5% of buyers who aren't happy to wait don't matter?  I'd be happy to wait if a seller was honest, but I suspect a lot of your customers would want to cancel simply because of your false advertising.

You have no idea how many items I sell a day.  What I sell is a lot more work than grabbing a DVD and putting it in an envelope to post, but I still make time for proper inventory control - and for customer satisfaction.  Oh, and for keeping up with the rules.

If you're selling on ebay then your inventory control needs to be relevant to ebay.

How do we know that ebay aren't applying the rules to the big sellers? It's all based on percentages so the more transactions you have, the more defects you're allowed - and these are high-volume sellers.

No, they aren't ( the ones Donna posted a link to)  BCF only had about 1700 FB. It was their fb I quoted. Registered for 2 years.

2 pages of mainly item not in stock, quite a few of those in neutral fb too. Will be interesting to see how long they last under the new regime of terror but i suspect they are immune to the defect disease that will infect the rest of us.

So the not so good guys & all the other commercial sellers that eBay woos & promotes are doing a terrible non-performing seller job.Makes the rest of the unwashed seller masses look quite beautiful by comparison.

Funny that something got raped in thin paper on the last pg of the  good guys neutral fb.If it had been bubblewrap it would have been more kinky.

The scammers will also end up with lots of defects so they'll be brought to account, but if we didn't have a defect system they'd continue to get away with it.  Is that what you want - do away with the defect system so they can continue on their merry way?

All these sellers below are given prime position on eBay Big Sundays and yes they are continuing on their merry way.

As for collectibles it is not a no brainer, neither is 'other' if I can list garden gloves in the garden category I darn well should be able to list garden boots there too.

Thats disgusting...Cmon SOMEONE must know why this is allowed. To the faceless CEOS of Ebay why are we being penalised and not the real mongrels ( pointles question i know) . At least in most jobs theres mediation ....a union...a warning....We have put trust in ebay to generate our income. We have invested in our business only to be treated like second rate citizens.......MAYBE we should be asking the CEOS of all the companies above how they get away with this...

Re: Selling account restricted permanently

I was talking about the number of defects a seller with that many transactions would be allowed to have before they lose their selling privileges, showing that he would have had to have had a lot of defects over the last year.

The most defects he would have got for cancelling transactions for Popeye would have been 75 (the ones he couldn't supply), but he said most of them didn't want to cancel, so the defects must have been for other transactions.  Ebay don't close a high-volume seller's account for just cancelling half a dozen transactions.

With respect Catspj's, shouldn't the rules apply to ALL eBay sellers - including the corporate giants.  There should not be two sets of rules - as pointed out in donnashuggy's posts above.

I'm not saying OP didn't stuff up, but with all the other threads around at the moment about shill bidders/accounts reinstated - you know the ones I mean - it seems an over the top reaction to deal the death blow to someone with such a long time selling account, good FB, etc.

And after all, we are all only human - none of us are pefect - we should be able to make an error or two without having the lifebuoy thrown over without a rope.  But I guess we will read that in eBay's new policy guide - lifebouoys only, no rope!!!

Rules should apply to those who signed up for those rules.

If other larger sellers have different terms not sure how the rules for the rest of us can apply to them.

If you chose not to know or not to follow the rules then its an individual thing.

Like if I get busted for leaving feedback comments for non payers then I ain't going to come to the boards and lament. I know the rules, I know I skirt on the edge of them and I am prepared to wear the consequences to create a safer trading place.

I don't agree with the DEFECTIVE defect system. I don't agree with lifetime bans for breaches of this kind. But I also don't agree with the principle that if one can get away with something everyone should be able to.
