when questioned if I mind if the seller keeps my post money I'm happy to pay if the seller delivers... just wondering what others thoughts are on this situ:
bought a fragile item, it was hand delivered which I was not expecting....(i paid $13 post)...which I realise now they're kept.
advantages being no post office queues if not home, comes to me in one piece and earlier than would have got to me via post.
is this the way it works?
I sell too, and where closeby I have delivered but not for that amount of money...i'd be inclined to refund partial... but perhaps thats just me.
the item is nice. the person was friendly. any comments?

with those added facts your seller was way out of line. you dont just rock up on someones doorstep saying 'surprise i'm your lucky delivery guy arnt you just so happy to see me?'
does he deserve a serve, definately.
could make chapter 1 in the how not to be a good seller book

I really don't see the big deal about this. I have hand delivered items if somewhat local, and it suits me to do so. It doesn't happen often.
I deliver the same as the parcel post person would, no pre-arranged time, no agreement before, and I usually ring the door bell and leave it at the front door. At least I know it has been delivered, usually quicker, and to the correct address.
My time is money, and I have no issue keeping the full postage amount. The item still requires packaging, labelling, my fuel etc.

The big deal is sellers are invading buyers privacy by hand delivering without the buyers agreement. I spend a fair bit of time on ebay and treat it as work. As I work from home I try not to let ebay intrude into my private family life. When I finish ebaying I walk out of the office, shut the door and leave it behind for the day. I dont want strangers turning up on my doorstep at all hours of the day or night, "just dropping something off or picking something up." I use a PO box, so I dont have the postie or delivery driver turning up either.
I only have one sales condition in my listings and that is POSTAGE ONLY - sorry no local pick-ups available. I still get numerous enquiries saying they live in the same state, demanding to know where I live and can they pick the item up ? Some demand to know why I dont do local pick-ups and get very antsy when I fob them off with a well used reason. They just think its their right to come to my house when it suits them, regardless of what I might be doing at the time.
The really silly part is I even get these requests for items sent as large letters for a few dollars. Dont these numbats figure in their fuel and car running expenses ? They have obviously got too much time on their hands and absolutely nothing to do all day.

This privacy being that the buyer has given the seller their address? And thus negated?
Why is a seller different to a courier/Ap contractor?

No I think they think they are doing the buyer a favour lmao
Yet, these sellers are so rude as not to message the buyer to see if they are ok with the change in delivery arrangements, with some even pocketing the $$ for the post paid by the buyer.
I purposely do not buy goods from eBay that require courier delivery for a whole lot of reasons that are noones beewax.
A seller rocking up at my door with goods that I had purchased on the basis they would be posted as per the listing details, without contacting me first ? what the ? lol ... how misguided....

Fair enough buyers may or may not get peed off if a seller delivers the goods themselves instead of the postie.
But please all the people that are complaining about the sellers pocketing the postage cost come on,the sellers time and money
by doing this is costing them much more than if posted through the mail so stop whinging.

Its neither here or nor there what it costs the seller to deliver if the option for seller delivery was never agreed with the buyer.
If a buyer pays for post and the delivery arrangements change to delivery by seller, then the ok for this change of arrangements and any charge for this should be negotiated and agreed upfront.

In the small print I have "We reserve the right to use whatever delivery method is best for our needs. " But that usually means we choose AP, Couriers Please or someone else. Once un-beknown to me my warehouse guy hand delivered an air tool to a customer who lives in the next street from where my warehouse guy lives. The customer was OK with it but it didn't make me happy!
I wouldn't do it unless the customer has requested it. If your listing free post the customer has accepted that when they click "Buy it Now " the item will be delivered by a postman or courier.
Doing something different just invites the possiblity of problems to rear their ugly head!

I agree, it does invite something to go wrong. If it does, a seller would not even have tracking to back them up.
Even, if you list using free post, you still have to nominate the type of delivery service in the post details section of the listing.

DAVE - As already mentioned my only ebay address is a PO box, so I never have AP or couriers delivering without prior arrangement and with an agreed time. I know of other ebayers who do the same to prevent the scenario you mention.
My stores have a high value ( around $150,000 ) of small, easily portable and easily sold items. Many individual items worth several hundred dollars each. These are all displayed with photos in my listings and sitting on shelves in my house. Why should I advertise on the internet the address that these are located and have people expect they can turn up unannounced on my doorstep at their own whim for local pick-ups or drop offs. ????
I am not always home and my wife is blind. If someone turns up on my doorstep unannounced for a local pick-up, my wife would have to invite them into our house and have them rummage through everything or turn them away and possibly have to put up with their agro. The internet is not a safe place and a seller, dropping off an item unannounced could see a blind person alone with a house full of valuable stuff and get ideas.
Its an internet business that states in the listings, SORRY NO LOCAL PICK-UPS AVAILABLE. so why do buyers ( or sellers ) expect to be able to turn up at my doorstep whenever the mood takes them ?????.
