I am trying to list a plant which is registered with the Bromeliad Society International. I am told that I can not list a Golliwog Doll or anything related. The name of the plant is Golly. To me this is a perfect example of how stupid political correctness can be, The word Golly is in the dictionary. Whoever made this ridiculous rule needs to get a life and get in the real world. I am still fuming.

I think why mine may have got through, it wasn't listed in fine jewellery as a "simulated diamond" (which would be a no no), it was a book. It would be interesting to know if people who sell Neil Diamond CD's got the same message when they tried to list.
With any luck for the OP, if it's listed in the plant category, the bots will leave it alone.

Will give it a try. Personally I think Ebay is now making a laughing stock of itself. If something is offensive, somebody will report it. Then and only then should ebay take action. They are acting lot a bunch of twits. We are not b-----y school children

Scruff, was your listing removed or did you just get a warning
when you tried to list?

I am selling some old Noddy books and I could not list with golly. Ebay prevented them listing, so I did not pesist. Yet too I have seen lots of sellers with it in their title so must be some way round it. Maybe you could ask some of those other sellers how they got round to including it?

If it's in the title of the book, then it's allowed according to ebay
Was your listing taken down, or were you just given a warning when
you tried to list it?

There was outrage at the time ebay decided to prohibit the term 'golly/golliwog'
I won't give the link because it got quite heated, but someone got a reply from ebay
and posted it on the boards.
This is a C & P from that thread -
This is a follow-up email in regard to the removal of your Golliwog related item.
I apologise if we just contacted you today since we just got an update. Anyway, in accordance with feedback from our community, we have made the decision to prohibit the sale of golliwog dolls and many associated products from our site globally. We believe this is the right thing to do and is consistent with our values as a business. This is not a reflection or judgement on anyone selling the item. We thank you for your understanding and ask you to please not list these kinds of items.
Books, artwork and music are part of the exemption, however sellers cannot use the term Golliwog/Golly in the listing unless that term is included in the actual title of the media. Please make the necessary revision when you list your item.
If you are able to see sellers selling the same items, provide us the item numbers so that necessary action will be taken.
Thank you for choosing eBay.
Hope that clears things up for some people
