Ebay plus a joke

I know it's early days, but based on what I see, there is no way in hell I'll be paying for Ebay Plus. I buy a lot and have a large watch list and have noticed that the only sellers offering it.... are those that had free shipping already! lol and of course we know there is no such thing, it's factored in to the price.

So it's all a farce to get people to pay $29, $49 after the first year to get free shipping off sellers who offered it prior to Ebay PLus anyway. Not only single seller I use who charges postage now has the Plus. And here was the Ebay chief saying they were doing it to increase online shopping. Yeah whatever dude....

You may as well have kept your membership for the next year and got some benefit from it.

Ebay plus is a scam. Ebay does not even send you an email to remind you of the cooling off period and rely on people to forget. It’s very expensive for a service that is not consistent across sellers and also for buyers who don’t always use ebay like myself. They should be reported to the ACCC that protects consumers from scammers in Australia. Illegal business practice from a large company.

You cant get a refund now you had 30 days to do that. Be more vigilant in future.

ya know, on this one I think michelle is close to the mark.  This thread is about eBay Plus and the 30 day free trial and not about buying, selling, cancelling a transaction, or opening a case.

When I took up the 30 day eBay Plus it was very clear that to not have to pay anything I had to cancel within the 30 day trial.  I didn’t need eBay to send me a reminder that the 30 days was coming to an end . . . geeze, I don’t need anyone holding my hand when I use eBay!

Re: Ebay plus a joke

It seems a lot do need someone reminding them of every little thing. I don't know why they don't write it on a calendar, like they might write a doctor's appointment on there as a reminder.  Oh no, that would be too much like taking responsibility for one's own actions!

Ebay Plus looks like becoming even more of a joke. I just got an email about it and if sellers don't send with tracking their items won't have Plus on them (starting April).

That rules out all items that are sent as letterpost, all listings that don't offer express (even if it's only an added alternative to normal post), all listings that don't have 0-1 day handling time, and all listings with a separate postage charge. I guess all the extra fees on the extra postage costs will fund Plus returns.

I think they were promising extra visibility for Plus listings and extra protection for sellers who use Plus, so where does that leave the rest of us? And where does it leave buyers who signed up when there were a lot more listings that qualified for Plus?  It really does seem like they're promoting the site as just an online shopping mall.

with the high uptake of mobile phones I can’t see that 30 day period being a problem as I can set an advance alarm on my mobile.  I can also set a reminder on my mobile’s calendar for two days before the 30 days is up.  Plenty of time to cancel.

No need for Plus items to get extra visibility in search results as there is a search filter for eBay Plus items on the left side panel of search results.

Re: Ebay plus a joke

No, there isn't any need to give Plus items extra visibility, but it's another carrot (stick) to get sellers to offer free postage and all the other extras if they want to have Plus on their listings.

Re: Ebay plus a joke

Yeah, I just don't undertstand why anyone would use ebay plus.

First of all, their main claim to fame is "free shipping on all plus items"... ok I have 2 problems with this:

a) there are VERY few plus items out there. Almost everything I search for returns 0 results.

b) every plus item ALREADY HAS FREE SHIPPING. So you gain literally nothing by having plus.

And other than that, I don't know what you get from having it that's of any use.

It seems so obviously ridiculous that I feel like I'm missing something, because surely it can't be that dumb?
