Queensland Knife Restrictions do not align with state law and are discriminative

The new policy that eBay have imposed meaning any buyer residing in Queensland can not purchase any knife is not aligned with the actual legislation changes.

The only thing that has changed is that you need to be 18 to purchase a knife.

Ebay should just implement age verification and stop this ridiculous heavy handed policy that prevents legitimate users such as myself from purchasing legal items.

I'm sure there are ways around any eBay ban of Queenslanders buying knives, but it's not my place to post the 2 that readily come to mind.

Perhaps eBay are aware that adults let their siblings/kids access their eBay account.  I know there have been some who have posted about that.

You will need to take that up with ebay

or buy them elsewhere that allows you to

And if Ebay implements age verification, think of the uproar from people having to provide evidence of age.

It's a good approach from Ebay under the circumstances.

100% correct. I'm in my 60's been collecting knives since I was a teenager. I have bought and sold many knives on e-bay. This morning I tried t o place a bid on a Leatherman Tool and my bid was blocked because I am in Queensland. I am neither a minor, an irresposible knife owner and a Leatherman tool is hardly and offensive weapon. Does this mean I can no longer sell knives on e-bay too? and a professional or home ched can no longer buy a bread knife, no more exacto knives for hobbies???

How can you take it up with e-bay, they have no phone number, no e-mail address and when you ask a question, the robot doesn't know what you are talking about. Does anyone have an e-mail address we can write to them and express our concerns?

eBay Help is at the top of every page

eBay are not going to read here

There is no email address other the bot automated one

How is eBay suppose to know who are responsible knife owners and who are not?

This was announced in July , so no idea why it comes as a surprise

Maybe contact someone 'official' about state laws and direct them to contact eBay

I would be far more concerned about a site allowing just any random seller to sell a weapon to any random buyer

As it is eBay allow far too many things that they claim are not allowed to actually listed and sold and ignore reports about them

Re: Queensland Knife Restrictions do not align with state law and are discriminative

Take it up with the Qld Government, it is a stupid, ill conceived law, that will have no effect on real life.

My condolences to Jacks parents, but it is not going to make a difference, just punishing the majority for the sake of a few with new hoops to jump through for buyers, sellers and online platforms alike.

If you can not walk into a hardware store and come out with a legal product, that you can convert to an illegal weapon in less than 30 seconds, then you have not given much thought to the issue, and there are many more products that will take a bit longer to convert.

In the words of Jacky Chan,  Anything can be used as a weapon  (How True)

you'd have to try listing one to find out.

If you can sell, then clearly you will not be selling to Queenslanders, meaning pickup will not be an option.
