Queensland Knife Restrictions do not align with state law and are discriminative

The new policy that eBay have imposed meaning any buyer residing in Queensland can not purchase any knife is not aligned with the actual legislation changes.

The only thing that has changed is that you need to be 18 to purchase a knife.

Ebay should just implement age verification and stop this ridiculous heavy handed policy that prevents legitimate users such as myself from purchasing legal items.

I think it is ridiculous that Woolworths no longer sell vegetable knives or any other kind for that matter.

WW near me doesn't sell steak or carving knives any longer, but they do sell butter knives and "Stanley" blades (box cutters).

Took a pic while I was shopping the other day (2 sized blade holders and spare blades for each).

Re: Queensland Knife Restrictions do not align with state law and are discriminative

Has anyone found out a way to find if an item is restricted or not? We sell many training swords, knife sharpeners and they are restricted because of the wording. Ebay tells me there is no way for a seller to see if an item is restricted or not, it can only be done on checkout.

Send me a link of the non-exempt items on Ebay that are getting through, and I'll speak to someone at Ebay about them.

There are also restrictions on training swords, batons etc, under the weapons policy.

Now why would I like to do that, perfectly capable of reporting matters to ebay, if and when I see fit.

So far I have not seen a B&M store that is fully compliant.

Typical abuse of power... The Stanley Knife/Box Cutter is also supposed to be banned. They are razor-sharp... and would be every bit as deadly in the hands of an idiot... and so cheap, it doesn't make sense. QLD has been specifically named BOX CUTTER ie Stanley Knife in the new laws as a controlled item. eBay also named box cutters as being banned, along with knives, swords etc in its 22/7/24 notice regarding the new Laws  (all the major retailers were notified at the beginning of April... so what took them so long? to issue a notice?)

However, Bayonets have also been banned, although these were never named in this new law, NOT by the QLD GOV, the QLD POLICE or EBAY.

Technically eBay doesn't have to impose this ban as the onus is always directed to the buyer's account if a juvenile happens to use it to procure a banned item. eBay decided to implement this ban... they were not forced to do it...

No I did not and have no intention of providing you with anything.  Your SA post that was removed and your childish emojis have not gone un-noticed, I don't expect nor desire an appology from you.  Toodles.

Just to add, the listings that are getting through, have not been ammended to circumvent the knife policy, they were in breach of pre-existing policies, and are not being detected .

It is typical of Qld, to police/punish the entire populous for the actions of a few.  Illegal to leave your car unlocked or a window down more than, I think 5cm.

Those weak enough to feel the need to carry a weapon are still going to obtain and carry a knife/weapon of some description, legal or not.

Had to laugh in major HW store,  at all the axes etc under lock and key, while items on the next shelves, every bit as deadly, have open access.

At least we still have unrestricted access to soy sauce and a few other items that are restricted elsewhere.
