As a regular buyer of American products, I am being forced to look elsewhere for them. The ebay shipping program, which unboubtedly is easy for sellers, is prohibitively expensive for lower priced products. A small item is regularly charged at $50. This is more than double what I would charge for the same service, and Australia is The Most Expensive Postal Service in the World.
US sellers, if you want our business, wise up and post the item yourselves.

Many of us Ebay old timers wish for a return to the fun, hassle free good old days.
So are a lot of sellers. Hence the GSP. Covers them for everything

Well imastawka , I have been here as a member since 2002. I have seen a lot of things going on here and I have seen members come and go.
I totally disagree with what you say here in relation to GSP, '"So are a lot of sellers. Hence the GSP. Covers them for everything"
That would be in the minority. Yeah, 20 to 50 sellers could be a lot. But most of the sellers that I have approached have just had GSP thrown over them and some didn't know how to re-list without it. Sellers are losing money because overseas bidders are going elsewhere. The majority of sellers overseas who were selling prior to GSP worming its way onto the scene were happily selling to overseas buyers and without problems. Now many of them are losing money as they are not getting the higher bids.

And there are still sellers who don't realise they are signed up for it. Just a couple of days ago I found a listing that said GSP but when I opened it up the seller had 'I ONLY SHIP IN UNITED STATES' in big letters. Is he or she in for a surprise.

Sorry imastawka , but GSP on the whole and in the long run is a massive failure for many of the sellers and most of all the buyers.

Lyndal, that sounds wonderful. If only any of my US friends were coming over to Australia, or were pilots... Sadly, they're not.
4channel, the items are banquet chairs. I can buy similar chairs locally, but at about 700% and without the exact fabric on which I had my eye.
I may in the end have to purchase from the local supplier. I'd be much happier about buying locally if the chairs were made locally, but of course they are not... Has anyone here purchased from Alibaba?

@4channel
the seller in that example will not get a surprise like you would think because they will only be shipping domestically, to Erlanger KY.
For all they know the winning bidder/buyer is registered in Australia but living in Kentucky.

Countess, I have not purchased from Alibaba myself but there have been members on the boards in the past who swear by them.
A few of my neighbours have also been very satisfied with their dealings with them.

Well countessalmirena , I hope that you find a way to get them at a price that is justifiable. I know what it's like when you have your eye on something and would like to have it. Good luck with the search.

Thanks k1ooo-slr-sales for the reply and clarification on the first part.. Actually, the first part of what zanadoo_56 was saying was what I was also trying to put across

There was one seller I came across that didn't realse what had happened to his auctions. Anyway he was glad I pointed it out to him and said he was going to try and re-set it all so the auctions were listed with USPS and or other options etc.

Out of interest 4channel, I'm fully aware that you've used this board to vent about the GSP, but have you ever tried going to the heart of the problem and posting on the US seller board and getting your views out to the US sellers????
If not I reckon it might be worth a try...................
Edit. ..............and also the UK boards since they are using the GSP now as well.

Don't know if I'd find the heart of the problem in the US on the board old son. Perhaps some of the many other members here that have had displeasure with this GSP may want to.

You are the one who wants the system changed and sellers to be made aware of the problems with the GSP......why wouldn't you be willing to put your point across to the very sellers who you want to do it your way?
It is doubtful that many US or UK sellers are going to see your complaints on the Aussie boards.
