If I lived in Adelaide, I might want a water tank. Not keen on the taste of the water over there ( no offence meant to anyone)

punch I'd forgotten all about the sludge at the bottom of the tanks I'm pretty sure we used to breed mozzies in our's too lol.

All the water tanks werec ompulsorily removed in Brisbane because of the mosquitos, and when the city (and other areas) ran out of water, they all came back again.

as long as we have water, that's the main thing

That is so true.  I often think of small children whose job it is to walk 3 miles every day to collect water for the family in some African countries.

Someone has predicted that there will be water wars in the future.

When we first moved here the tank hadnt unused for over a yr ( deceased estate ), we emptied the tank competely and cleaned it all out, it wasn't too bad but I wanted it done.

I have a vague recollection of OH having to put a small amount of kero in the tank because of the mozzies, but I hope that was our bore water tank , not our " roof top water" tanks lol.

It's probably a good idea in major cities to have a tank because we get some pretty serious drought years now

We can only use ours for outdoors, how else will they charge us lots for our water?

Re: Heated discussion thread - Politics, Religion and anything else

In most major cities in Vic water tanks are compulsory in all new builds, mainly for flushing the loo, given Vic's water probs, I think it's a good idea

Not sure where you lived Debra, we dont get mozzies here, dunno why, flies yes, spiders yes, snakes yes but no mozzies

& they want to keep it that way too Az. I think in Melb you can only have a tank for garden use as well

Re: Heated discussion thread - Politics, Religion and anything else

the water situation got a bit desperate here a few years ago Bushies, gave us all a bit of a fright. I 'm glad they have that building specification now. when we lived in the country , it was the Macedon Ranges, we had plenty of mozzies and flies and tiny little bats
