Does anyone know how the Jewish Year is calculated - I believe this year is 5775. It is supposed to be since Creation?

Smart move, Rabbit. Putting a warning in the thread topic. It's not however, an offensive issue.
And yes, this will be the year 5775 in the Jewish calendar. And again, yes - since 'creation'.

I did it few years back - using x was y years old and he begat z etc ... can't remember what I got up to but it was more than 5775 - I think over 6,000. I'll look back through my stuff and see if I can find it.
so, 5775 years from what part of creation?

thats a lot of hard work --goodness.
Now that I think about it, there are charts of how long each of those people lived for and what year it was.
re the current year,so, its slightly complicated.
According to Jewish Tradition:
the first full Jewish year, started on day 6 (Friday), when mankind was created.
so , the first year went from Sunday to Thursday and only had 5 days.
Whether the first 5 days is called year 0 or year 1, is disputed by the Jewish Sages, but at any rate, we're only out 1 year either way.
