Hello,
I've recently sold an item and have shipped it off to the buyer (it's currently in transit according to tracking). As soon as I shipped it the buyer has asked for a return as he stated "I found a better price". Because my listing said it does not accept returns, I have the option to decline the return request.
I'm just worried that if I decline it, the buyer will come back with a "not as described" or "damaged on arrival" and I'll be forced to refund and lose the item.
Is it safe to decline the request? Can the buyer make multiple return requests? Is it just easier to get them to ship the item back and refund them? Do I have the right to make them pay for return shipping, with tracking?
I've never had any issues or means to ask the community anything, so any help is appreciated, thanks. 🙂

@bloodlust_03wrote:ebay and paypal don't operate within accc law. In the past yrs when i had a previous account a buyer would simply change their mind, complain to ebay and get their money and also get to keep the product so on my new account i won't accept payments thru ebay but will accept paypal payments leaving ebay out of the loop. the buyer has to many rights and the seller none.
I hope you are joking????
When has ebay been involved in payments from buyers?
In order to use the ebay disputes resolution and MBG the buyer must have paid by paypal or credit card through paypal.
You have not protected yourself from anything but this post makes you look as though you do not understand the system at all.

eBay's policy for sellers states that a seller must offer at least one "safe payment method" for buyers, ie Paypal or a merchant banking facility. So with your new account how do you bypass that policy?
If, as I suspect, you are refunding Paypal payments made in checkout and trying to force buyers to deal directly through Paypal, your selling career on the new account may well be short-lived.

Hi
i simply tell the truth.
i accept paypal no problem with that but in the past i've stated "please contact before paying"
i then ask for their email and send a money request.
the buyer is still coverred under paypal policy and me as the seller is also coverred. If a buyer pays via ebay the seller has no rights.
if you do this ebay can't stop you because you are not lieing, it's truth and you still accept paypal.

Ok, so what do you do when a buyer pays by Paypal through eBay's checkout system?

Sounds like off ebay selling to me, and ebay has policies against that.
You could find yourself permanently banned from selling.

that's where u wrong, u only have to accept paypal ....i know the law ebay can't do anything about as long as you state it in your listing

i'll give u an example, when i had an old ebay account and i started selling, i sell product averaging $150 at a time, a new account, until u have 20 sales ebay hold funds in escrow, i rang ebay and said i won't do that, i ended up speaking to a supervisor and he finally admitted as long as i list in the listing i wont accept payment via ebay because of that policy but will accept paypal with money request ebay can't do a thing about it

A couple of things that could happen if you are doing that:-
1. The "buyer" that you refused to accept payment from can still leave feedback, which could easily be a neg.
2. The "buyer" could complain to eBay that you are trying to force them not to deal through the eBay system (on whose platform you are happily advertising on)
3. If eBay recieves a complaint about your selling practices they could easily restrict / shut down any or all of your selling accounts.
Good luck with the legal system helping you in any of those scenarios. eBay's playing field, eBay's rules, there are a number of members here that have had their accounts suspended for less drastic policy violations than you are trying to do. And I agree with Stawks, eBay would very likey see it as an attempt to sell off-eBay.
BTW, I'm not trying to be nasty to you, I'm simply pointing out the possible ramifications of your actions, despite what the eBay supervisor has told you over the phone.

in responce, accc guidelines, u might not know this, if as a seller you ship an item to a buyer without having clear funds, under the law the buyer does not need to pay for the item.. that is actual law... why i don't send items without clear payment.
if buyer insists on paying for item vis ebay, in the past when i had an old account i said they would have to wait 21 days
