DAMAGE CONTROL...measures taken to offset or minimize damage to reputation, credibility, or public image caused by a controversial act, remark, or revelation.
What steps can we take now to minimize the damage to our lively hood, business, reputations which is in evidently going to occur from eBays polluted defect system.
1/Do we wait till the ship has sunk and try to raise it....Are you like the TITANIC..cant be raised?
2/Do we stop building up our stock , waiting for the inevitable to happen.
3/Or do we just become Doris Days and say
Que Sera, Sera ???

Hahaha (re the neighbour)
I don't get it either, I sort of get the IP address bit, that they can see accounts going through that address, but (as lou would say) - blooming hell - if their systems are so damn sophisticated, why cant they fix their own DEFECTIVE DEFECT system !?!

Hi, flojoe ..... in answer to your first question, If you have an ebay account that was originally set up on the work computer, ebay could shut down all ebay accounts ( including your employers or business ebay accounts ) that are hosted by that work IP address. If you are just logging onto your ebay account which was originally set up at home, your employers accounts should not be affected.
In answer to your second question, ebay policy states that they can shut down all accounts including those from other family members who have set up different ebay accounts on the one IP address. ( In other words all accounts registered from your home computer can be shut down at once, regardless of whose name they are in ). When ebay close accounts permenantly, I understand they DO usually follow this procedure and shut down all accounts registered from the one IP address. If its a minor infringment that only recieves a brief suspension they tend to leave other accounts open from what I have seen.
This may be important information for people who have set up ebay accounts at work, especially if it is a large company or your boss has an account registered from the business IP address.

Virtual Private Network. Basically it gives you a fake IP address, but it's legal. People use them for security reasons, but also use them for unscrupulous reasons.
If you are permanently suspended from eBay AU, are you permanently banned from all eBay sites? I'm wondering whether John could start again (EEEK) on eBay Germany. Anyone can sign up with them without residing there.

so if someone in the household gets a suspended via the defective defect system everyone is in trouble... or is getting below the certain % of defects considered a minor infrigement. i bet it's considered major...
As for the work computers, i wonder what happens if people are using say, the uni library or even the local library computers, or an internet cafe..... Oh, the possiblities are endless.....

would it be considered unscrupulous reasons for john to get a VPN? (see i'm getting down with the lingo!)
I don't think so..... could he join germany and sell only on the australian site?
Does Aust post have tracking to germany... (imagine it all happening again due to items not recieved over there)

If he was only selling in Aus, it wouldn't matter about the Tracking to Germany would it ? Or did I miss something, lol

@chameleon54 wrote:In answer to your OP I am trying to run my stocks down, but it is difficult as the country is awash with stock at the moment. My storage shed seems to be filling up not emptying. I am no longer following up leads that I would have jumped on twelve months ago and are just watching bulk lots of stock pass me by as I try to reduce my inventory. Ebays current direction is worrying me greatly as my young family still rely on ebay for the bulk of our income. I started my ebay business due to health problems which mean I cant return to my previous occupation and being over 50 my employment options are very limited.
The sad part is my ebay business is still going well and turning good numbers, even in the current difficult trading enviroment.
I'm doing the opposite, funnily enough. I'm reinvesting as much as I can, as often as I can, to grow my business while I can. Not because I have confidence in eBay, but because I think it's imperative to maintain confidence in my business.
With any luck, I'll keep half an eye on the sword of Damocles and get off the throne just before it drops.

You could theoretically join in Germany and base yourself in Australia. This would be no different from the Australian sellers who ship from China. Its called "Drop Shipping" and is quite common on ebay. A recent thread mentioned a seller of postal supplies who lists on the Singapore site where fees are lower, but ships from Australia.

DIGI, My problem is I already have probably two years supply ( and tens of thousands of dollars ) in stock held in storage now. I dont want to be left holding all of that if ebay turns out my lights !!!
