Feedback Overhaul

I believe the feedback system is outdated in needs a major overhaul. Unfair negative feedback is not good for the seller and definitely not good for eBay because it turns buyers away. In a time with so much online competition ebay does not want to lose business and needs to re-think its feedback policy.

Here's a few suggestions I have and your input would be appreciated.

1. Feedback should not be positive, neutral, negative. Scrap it. It should be just feedback comments. Buyers can still read through comments etc.

2. Sellers can leave comments for buyers (again not pos,neg etc.. just comments)

3. Feedback time limit should be 30 days. Why do buyers need 2 months to leave feedback?

4. Keep the DSR ratings. They are more rellevant and can be viewed with the comments.

Re: Feedback Overhaul

I hate the stars too, they seem so subjective but I see sellers complaining of selling restrictions due to them - Is this true? If, like I used to, you live in rural area, post always takes 1-2 (even 3) days longer than expected and you have fussy buyers who want it now! (even with the disclaimer in your listings re: slow post = don't bid!) they leave less than 5 stars your account is affected?

Also, why can't sellers leave a negative for non-paying buyers?!?! I remember back inthe good old days when you could neg a buyer who messed you around.

I have also noticed (as an avid fb reader) that some sellers have 100% everything yet they have multiple neutrals and negs left in the comments, how can this be??? (e.g. Member: kazvxv8) I actually looked through the fb re: fridges with 30 day warranties, wanted to know if any had carked it and buyers left follow up fb, sure enough I found a couple but then noticed many negs and neuts??? HOW can a seller have negs and 100% fb???

I say...

  • Ditch the stars, they are lame and take up time when leaving fb, makes me not want to leave it sometimes.

  • Bring back seller negs, add conditions to the ability to leave a neg if need be.

  • Make a point of having neutrals... if they don't effect your fb % and someone suggested 'hardly anyone reads fb' then what's the point of having them??? Maybe they could temporarily drop you % or something... like a warning? I don't know...

  • Someone said individual item fb... might be useful in some cases, perhaps a simple 'search' function in the fb section could clear that up?

I have had unfair neg fb removed by ebay before. I have also had abusive neg fb removed after leaving a neg for a seller who was shoddy. I think ebay must've got rid of the seller negs just because it is too much like hard work dealing with 'unfair fb disputes'?? - clearly the big bee in my bonnett... I guess, if someone is the kind of buyer that doesn't pay I a) want to bar them from bidding on my stuff and b) don't want to buy from them???

Someone please answer my Q about the negs not affecting % - TA

Re: Feedback Overhaul

BTW, I think 'private' listings should be saved for certain categories too - after all, if someone wants to buy a particular tent and they look for the actual fb about that item but it's not there, you can have 500 people say a tent is crap and still keep selling them to unsuspecting buyers???

My oath it needs an overhaul  If your a Power Seller Ebay just removes your Negs to protect you while you go and continue to rip buyers off. So unfair

Ebay protects certain Power Sellers, Lets them break rules all the time and rip people off and do nothing about it. I will always do as I advertise.

bunyip, your negs were removed for a reason, not because the seller is PS.

That can be for number of reasons:

1 - the % is counted only for the past 12 months

2 - large sellers with thousands of sales may have number of NEGs , but if they have many thousands of positives the % is just smidgen under 100 and therefore displays as 100 .

The seller you named does not have any NEGs or neutrals  in the past 12 months, and their stars are excellent

Re DSR

We become the victims of coloquial language usage.

Something is either accurate or inaccurate -

We are satisfied or dissatified -

Something is delivered quickly or slowly -

Something is reasonable or unreasonable -

The 'very' qualifiers are irrelevant.

I always have trouble with this type of arbitrary judgement, especially when asked if something was described accurately or very accurately. It was either accurate or it wasn't. Doesn't make sense to me and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Re: Feedback Overhaul

30 days for feedback, you can't be serious. Many items are nowadays taking this long or more. As already stated 60 days is insufficient! I do agree that sellers not being able to leave true ratings for buyers I always thought was a bad move. If a buyer (me mostly) isn't prepared for negative comments then they are deluded. I believe that if negative feedback has been left then the member should have a right to alter it later if it results in the issue being addressed!

If listing says "red woollen jumper in excellent as new condition" and what you get is tan acrylic cardigan with piling all over, then it is very not as described.  If the jumper is red and wool but has slight sign of wear than is just mildly not as described.    If the seller states that they post next business day and then it takes them week before they post, then you have a right to be very unhappy, if it takes them 2 days you can be mildly annoyed............. etc.

Really, I cannot see what is your problem; if everything is as stated in the listing then the seller deserves 5*.
