Item sold, buyer happy and posted positive comment. Registered buyer and seller since 2012. EBay taken payment of fees immediately. Payment still in hold. No excuse for this. And sadly there is nothing one can do. You are at the mercy of eBay. It has soured the whole transaction sadly. I guess the message here is ‘be prepared’

By the way, I am a one man band, just like everyone else here, no affiliation with ebay.
And yes as an infrequent seller you pose a significant risk to ebay and their buyers.
The fact you know who you are means nothing.
No body here or at ebay, knows that you are actually authorised to use the account you have sold with.
Nor do they know what flags may be raised by external agencies during the 30 day hold period.

No one posting on this thread knows your identity and address.
No one posting on this thread has colleagues who have given conflicting and strange response.
The posters on this thread are eBay members like you. Some are buyers; some are sellers; some are both. Mostly the eBay members who post on these boards regularly are very au fait with eBay policies, more so than eBay CS chat reps because we have read the policies and seen them play out rather than simply reading from a script. This is a public board, not a private red phone to eBay.
No one posting on this thread has received a fee from you, nor have they provided you with a service.
I pass by the rather odd reference to narcissists being turned into human beings, as it is neither logical nor factual, and it appears to be irrelvant to the substance of your post.
Something about your recent sale/s may have triggered the automatic payment hold. Alternatively, the universe is just in the sort of mood to pummel you.

Guess what, Ebay is fully entitled to take their fee direct from the payment. I am pretty sure they are fully aware of their entity legitimacy, credit standing etc, and are well aware they are able to finace any refund to the buyer if required.
Unfortunately they don't know if you have the ability to refund any payments if required.

Odd that it's 30 days as opposed to 29, 28, 21, 14, 7, 19, or even 5 days. Weird.

Yeah? odd that isn't less than, or even more than 30 days.
on 03-07-2023 08:28 PM
what length of time do you think is appropriate?
on 03-07-2023 08:33 PM
Nothing odd about it, as it can be extended, I think up to 180 days, sounds familiar
Depending on the reasons for holds, the payment of funds can also be refused, with funds then forwarded to ASIC

what length of time do I think is appropriate to hold onto someone else' money that isn't mine? doesn't really matter. I was just stating that it's odd being exactly 30 days, not less or more.

The hold used to be 21 days, but ebay increased it to 30. Obviously they have their reasons. I have been selling for 20 years. The last few years, I've been very slack in my listings, so sales have been few and far between. No one's fault but my own. I am now subject to the 30 day hold if I sell something,
They brought it in to hopefully slow up the scammers. Scammers would hijack dormant accounts and list high end items for extremely low prices. An example, a $700 Makita drill for $20. Of course, people would jump on them. Immediate payment required. A few days later, the scammer has "sold" 1,000 of these items and cleaned out the hacked PayPal account, and the buyers are screwed. It's nothing against you. It's all about stopping the scum that were ruining ebay for many years.
If you bought an item, only to discover you may have been scammed, would you want the seller to have immediate payment, where you are basically screwed and can't get a refund, or have their funds held where you can open a dispute and go, I've been scammed, I want a refund? The hold means you'll get a refund. No holds, you lose.
As long as you've signed up to Managed Payments, you'll get your money. If you haven't, you won't. If the buyer has left feedback saying they have received the item and are happy, get onto ebay and usually they will release the funds early.
And no, like everyone else here, I don't work for ebay. I don't know your identity and I certainly don't know your address. I've just started watching Have You Been Paying Attention. I don't think they have that in the Philippines, where the ebay employees reside.
