when questioned if I mind if the seller keeps my post money I'm happy to pay if the seller delivers... just wondering what others thoughts are on this situ:
bought a fragile item, it was hand delivered which I was not expecting....(i paid $13 post)...which I realise now they're kept.
advantages being no post office queues if not home, comes to me in one piece and earlier than would have got to me via post.
is this the way it works?
I sell too, and where closeby I have delivered but not for that amount of money...i'd be inclined to refund partial... but perhaps thats just me.
the item is nice. the person was friendly. any comments?

ahhhh
not telling hubby about that post...he'll start on again about selling more stuff rather than buying it...
It's certainly one way of hiding the evidence! Having so much stuff laying around, Mr Tippy doesn't know if it's stuff I'm getting ready to list, or stuff I've just bought. Solves a multitude of problems! ๐

"Do you know this person ?
Why do you say "of course" she would have a PO Box ?
LOL"

No I don't know the person, but based on the description of the experience of someone visiting her home, it could be assumed that to minimise such anxiety she would have a PO box.
There are many reasons for having a PO box, one of which is to ensure deliveries are not made to your home address by hand or any other means.

I appreciate that a seller would be spending time and fuel to hand deliver but I can see where a buyer might feel ripped off with postage costs. They don't necessarily know where a seller lives, they might figure that if they paid eg $13 postage and the person lived close by, that person made a profit out of the postage.
Plus it might be a bit of a personal intrusion.
I would be pretty sure one of the massive reasons people buy eg small items & second hand clothes on ebay and not gumtree is because of the convenience of having things delivered plus it is impersonal and private, they don't have to face the seller. Back in the day when my sister & I sold a lot, we allowed pick up and a couple of times people arrived to say they were picking up for a 'friend' when it was pretty obvious it was most likely for themselves, but they felt awkward.
As a seller, I once hand delivered a small, fragile item. I had it all wrapped for post but was a bit worried so drove over that way-and popped it into their letter box. There is no way I would have knocked on their door.
I did send a message to them to say what i had done and why.
In actual fact, I had gone about 10 minutes out of my way. Back then the postage was very low anyway so it wasn't a big issue.
My buyer was rapt and gave me great feedback, but these days I would be cautious and ask first or else leave in letterbox, perhaps with partial postage cost refund in an envelope if it had been a bigger amount. Everyone loves a discount.

It's a personal choice whether to have a PO box and the reasons for that differ for everyone.
Providing an eBay seller with only a PO box will ensure you don't get a knock on the door if that is an issue.

You should be able to provide a street address for delivery for goods that offer post services without having to pay for a PO box due to some misguided seller feeling they have the right to rock up to your door without notice, and then ... keep the post charges LOL.

You can. It's called Parcel Collect. Your items get sent to the PO or agency of your choice, using your My Post number with the PO's address, and they send an email or sms when your parcel is ready to collect.

So your argument, as usual, was specious.
