$1750 eBay Scam? Has this seller scammed me?

Hi all,

I ordered an expensive $1750 brand new Nikon camera from a seller. Before it was dispatched i strictly told seller to recheck my address and name and don't use safe dropping method.

Some facts:

- item location is Melbourne, gets posted from Ashfield, NSW

- Sellers suggested bank transfer (I refused, opted Paypal)

- The items get delivered somewhere but the tracking number just shows that it was delivered in my suburb.

- Seller used a 500 gram express post sachet to post an expensive piece of electronics (Camera's body itsself is 750 gram without box and stuff) .

- Seller also didn't use "signature upon delivery" according to AUPost.

- investigation with Aupost and dispute with eBay and Paypal lodged the same day.

- Seller requested to close the disputes so he can get the funds from Paypal. Also, the parcel is in Aupost system and will only get delivered to my address when PayPal will release funds (tracking number shows "delivered" already)

- Sellers account gets suspended.

- Seller wants time till Monday to make sure package gets delivered to me.

I haven't received anything nor want to complete this transaction with this seller because of my suspicion of fraud.

eBay will refuse to help regardless, if they see a tracking number with a status as delivered, they will always side with the seller. This very thing has happened to me, they sent something a few suburbs away and both eBay and Paypal refused to help.

Paypal agreed to a refund only when I mentioned chargeback. This was for a relatively low value item (under $100), so if I do initiate a chargeback, it will cost them more.

I can't believe how eBay and Paypal do not seem to care about this. This is why you should ALWAYS pay with a credit/debit card so you have the option to chargeback when eBay or Paypal refuses to help you.

Did you pay with a credit/debit card?

I was in a very similiar situation as you. Lost both eBay and Paypal cases, but I called Paypal one last time to get them to reconsider before I initiated a chargeback via my bank and they refunded me out of "goodwill".

I would have easily won the chargeback claim. The tracking number shows a totally different suburb.

I paid through Paypal via Saving accounts. A mistake to remember.

The seller got scared when I found out his personal page with his photos on it. He offered a refund but I still had to give his information to Australian authorities. He told me that he was an internation student working for someone.

I also want to add that customer service or Ebay and Paypal do not try to go beyond their comfort to solve a simple mathematical equation like 2+2=4. With all the proofs and evidence from Australia Post both verbal and written trails of evidence I still lost the case as well as appeal against a brand new scaming seller.

No paypal and ebay both refused to pay or look at the evidences and closed the case. I found out who the seller was by some research and threthen him on facebook and he offered to return me my money in return of taking my complaint back from AU Authorities.

This happened a year ago?.

I wouldn't retract any complaint filed with authorities.

They'll never refund if you do that.

I'll be totally surprised if you get a refund at all.

yeah well. Paypal and Ebay customer service guys are actually just customer service guys who can't handle 9r answer anything thata out of their SOP or scripts. Their investigation team is I think not employed by them but through a third party company. that third party does everything to please their client (ebay or paypal). they have no sympathy or empathy of any kind no matter what you say.

It's been a year.  Ebay and Paypal will do nothing now.

Did you ask to speak to a supervisor at the time?

Did you use the 'call me back' function which gives you better customer service?

Did you appeal the decision by ebay?

Did you file a report with ACORN like you were advised to.....a year ago?

If you don't help yourself within the time frames, no-one else can help you.

Unless it was to update this thread, I don't know why you came back here.
