Can anyone enlighten me as to how anyone is shifty if they give advice on the boards but are not selling anything?

As others have mentioned, the Chameleon id is just a phorum posting ID. I find it is best not to post with my selling ID's for a number of reasons including
*. Some of the most sucessful products I sell are my own design, but easily copied if others where inclined.
* My basic product range is the same. There are only around six other serious sellers on ebay with a similar range of items to me. Its a niche market that works well for the half a dozen sellers but if too many others copy what we are doing, the market will be flooded and no-one will make a go of it.
* Phorum posters are more inclined to give a few trade secrets away, such as the way they source stock if others dont know the exact market they sell into. I dont mind admitting that most of my stock comes from auctions of businesses that have closed down, or through buying complete lines of surplus stock from existing B & M businesses, but as it is a specialised field, I dont want too many others chasing exactly the same stuff I,m after. The stock sourcing advice is relevent to any field though, from craft supplies to baby wear. Auctions of closed businesses can be a great source of bulk stock at very cheap prices.
* I realise I can be a bit abrasive at times ..... Sorry ......and some of my posts are never going to win too many friends.... especially on the more social boards where I havnt got much time for PC correctness......
, so its better not to ruffle feathers with a selling id, as it opens the way for malicous purchases.
* There are enough regulars on the boards who either know or have worked out one or more of my selling id,s who would soon notice if the things I said on the boards did not tally with my store activities. ie. If I was to tell porkies there are people who would soon notice.
* I,m not a huge ebay seller, but are making a good go of it as a genuine $35 per hour, wage paying, part time, single person business. If you really want to know, I am currently selling around $1200 per week for two days work, with around half of that as profit after all of the hidden costs are taken out. Not a fortune, and not big by ebay standards, but handy money. In the past I also worked ebay as my main source of income for around 3 years, paying my bills and house mortgage, running my cars and sending my kids to a low fee private school all on ebay profits.
There are plenty of sellers who would like to reach these sorts of goals and with social security payments and unsecure part time workers struggling, I hope some of my posts will point other, newer members in the right direction. I realise that probably sounds a bit naff & cliche, but I am genuinely quite passionate about helping others who need a bit of extra cash to get ahead. I havnt always had it easy and really struggled for quite a few years, so been there - done that and have found the money I make from ebay very helpful.
BUT it would be a bit silly to tell everyone how I do things, only to have them copy my business and exact product lines. Hence the chameleon posting ID.
