has anybody else having a sales crash in oz ebay since the new year and experiencing no sales now

I sell on another id and have been a seller for 10 years and have experienced a huge downturn from $500 to $800 a week to now zero this week, buyers are scarce even watchers, ebay is useless in finding why, just says sellers are dependant on buyers-what if they have dissapeared like here? I am only giving it another few weeks to show something is happening beyond my control & will not have any money to pay ebay for my store and listers, any suggestions?

I asked a question I did not ask for a lashing from some GenY or worse a self appointed forum queen that obviously spends a lot of time here 21,506 posts in less than 3 years-wow- answering other members concerns! that would also no doubt leave the same type of feedback, and another thing where are your listings seeing you know so much about selling?

Sorry, but your listings ARE misleading, you clearly state in most of your listing's titles (in bold) "in 10cm pot" or "in 6.5 cm pot" and all of your photos show the plant in a pot. You have to be crystal clear in photos and titles what the listing is for - it's not good practice saying half way down the listing that the plants will be sent bare-rooted.

Also Stawks, who has many years experience of how eBay operates, is using a "posting ID" which many posters do here, so as not to get retaliation from other members.

Edit, I'm slow as usual lyndal..............................

Redders: I sympathise with your daughters plight about work experience type work and fully understand what you talking about as each time I have done it have been ripped off grandly too .. not even a lousy $100 come christmas but boy did they milk my skillset and yes I made them all packets of money too (not to mention the convenience of exploiting me for months on end as I hoped to get a job out of it etc) and they all broke promises and hand shake agreements and when that was pointed out the denial and bad memory kicks in etc but at no point does it occur to them that you would in fact like to get paid for your time ..

One potential employer was a drunk and would regularly get me to drive him about and one day I had the gall to ask him to stop throwing his empty bottles out of my car window whilst I was ferrying him about and that ruffled his feathers and ultimately the beginning of the end as tensions grew from the fact I wanted to have any control over my car while he was a passenger etc and he told me how he had beaten up 6 of his previous employees but not to worry I was apparently his mate (obviously for driving him about so he could complete his days business while intoxicated) and well that was quite enough information for me by that point to decide to part ways etc as was just fed up with all the promises and endless BS .. these moderrn day lawless employers really are detestable and only care about their next payday!! whilst fairplay for employees takes a back seat .. I do hope things work out for your daughter Redders, things are really tough out there since deregulation of industry/enterprise bargaining/globalisation etc etc and more often than not these days workers are treated with contempt and are just ridden into the ground for fun and profit ..

Gee, and I thought I was helping too          takecover.gif        Guess not

I have a posting id,  just as you have, when you started this thread.

You then voluntarily posted with your selling id.

Others on this thread also have posting id's - so not much point in looking

at their listings, is there?

I just pointed out that, I thought,  your listings, although pretty, were not entirely

truthful IMO.

I thought, in my feeble mind apparently, that you were inviting some critique

as to the reason why you have not made any sales.

I'm not sayng you should send them in pots.  Just thought you should remove the reference to the pot size in your listing - particularly the title.   It's misleading IMO

And I still think there's too much description.   The eyes glaze over the colours.

I have received one neg and that was for non receipt.  They went straight for

the red dot, didn't contact me.   I dealt with it, by refunding.

After asking them for a fb revision, they changed it to a green

Others may agree with you.   I'm open to disagreement from others.

My post count comes from the enjoyable part, for me, at least, of being on ebay Community - Community Spirit.

I really don't answer that many posts, but yours caught my eye.

Interesting post! My daughter is a qualified commercial cook / Chef. She also has 3 bachelors & a Master's degree - still no full time job!  Bachelors are Business / Hospitality & Event Management; Accountancy;  & the Master's is in Primary Teaching - Melb Uni degrees! Her HECS debt is huge!

She's applied for over 300 teaching jobs & got one interview! Most jobs are taken by incumbents who've been there years, but the school has to advertise the job!

Local job centre sent her for a dishwasher job recently. Was unsuccesful as the current cook & the restaurant manager didn't have her qualifications & couldn't afford her or the knowledge she would bring to the position! Even Aldi turned her down as a checkout chick last week!  - Another disheartening find from our Government job centres!

She applies for any job that might give her a chance to get a foot in the door.

H&R Block dont want her either! Too qualified to do their tax return stuff! (She specialised in Tax Law & Forensic Accountancy when doing that degree - so once again over qualified)

@Better than that is the plight of 2 of her friends:- The Melb law graduate working as a male stripper @ Crown casino & the dual PhD engineer ( a real rocket scientist!) who works as a truck jockey moving furniture!

WOW, thanks for sharing, your post was most informative. My teenage daughter would like to be primary school teacher, but is not game to do 4 years uni only to find she cant get a job. She is now planning to leave school at the end of year 12 and try vocational training instead.

Our 17 YO  son could not find decent, ongoing work in the near city location we live in. A ten hour per week job for a retail assistant in a mens work clothing store recieved over 50 applicants in 3 days.

Our son moved to a remote rural location a few weeks ago and recieved 4 job offers in two weeks. He has accepted the best one and now has permenant work with on the job training as a heavy machinery operator. His starting salary is $900 per week.

Theres no doubt that with the high rates of unemployment and under-employment, some bosses are taking advantage of people looking for work and exploiting their vulnerability. I had not seen much of it 12 months ago, but it is becoming quite common now.

I,m not really keen on unions, mainly because they have become totally corrupted and political, forgetting why they where formed in the first place,  but we are at the point where workers need the protection of group bargaining and appropriate union representation to protect them from the groundswell of employer exploitation that seems to be occuring.

Hello, everyone. This topic is digressing. This board is all about selling on eBay. If you want to discuss politics, you can start a topic on the Community Spirit board. Thanks. 🙂

gewens : I respectfully request you to please don't move this to community spirit .. I don't know if you live in Australia but I feel we are on topic as in my opinion the political/economic climate here is in fact strongly affecting consumer income and consumer confidence ..  there are a few theories being put forward by different members that are quite viable and I have learned new information from this discussion ..

I promise I will desist from contributing further "lefty views" to this discussion as have already said my piece on this ..

In addition to the above, you can read press releases about eBay cutting expenditure on digital advertising because they feel that its too costly. This is clearly not working for retailers on their platform HOWEVER according to articles in the news they have 5 billion nett debt and are trying to re-invent themselves of which you cant blame them for. Is it little too late?

Well it doesn't sound good .. have you got a web-link for me so I can read about this further?

That is a rare success story .. perhaps its not all over yet .. but $900 a week is barely enough these days (living in Australia)  expecially if you want to get into the housing market so hopefully the boss makes enough money/value from him to put his wages up in time etc .. and on the flipside a traineee worker in a third world country would earn approximately $40 per week going to $60 with experience (if they are lucky) .. from what I hear middle management jobs in China are at $120-$160 per week which is considered doing well over there .. hopefully my point about globalism/non-protectionism taking jobs from Australians and putting downward pressure on wages is not lost in this discussion ..

.. without getting political I really feel the aussie economy is in a very precarious position and simply put; just not as much disposable income in the lower end of town as there was say 20 years ago and things are in a decline getting worse year by year ..

partiesnaccessories… as an aside I have never ever gone to google to search for an item so that I can buy it on ebay .. I just come to ebay search, find (if cassinni allows it) then buy .. back in the day (when I was building an ebay sales business; before thousands of sub categories were deleted and Cassinni wrecked the place by shovelling best match default at us every which way) I would admittedly use google to search for stuff to sell on ebay but never ever ever ever have I searched on google and then bought on ebay so I think that theory about ebay advertising budget is not what has caused the downturn in sales this year since January .. my theory is that after the christmas/holiday spending stopped the bill/credit-card paying started .. if you could supply a link concerning ebay's 5000 Million dollars worth of red ink I would be interested to read that ..
