I recently sold an item (on another ID) which was listed as pickup only. I didn't (and still don't) want to post it, as it is slightly fragile, and I'm concerned it might get damaged.
The postage section of the listing stated Local Pickup Only, the title included the pick up suburb, and the description also included the pick up suburb. I don't think it could have been clearer.
At the end of the auction, when I saw that the buyer lived in another state, I assumed they had moved and not updated their address in Ebay, so I sent the invoice with my phone number to arrange pickup. 5 days later, they have contacted me through Ebay messages asking for me to add the postage on to the invoice. I replied that it was pickup only, as clearly stated above.
My question is: Should I offer to pack it for a courier, with them arranging the courier and paying me by bank deposit, and agreeing in writing that they will take the risk of the item being damaged? Or would that agreement not hold water if they open a not as described dispute? Or, assuming that they tell me that they don't want the item if I won't post it, should I start a non-paying bidder dispute, on the basis that it was their responsibility to read the listing properly?
I see in a recent question about the same situation, some suggested that the seller get a quote for packing and courier (which would be exhorbitant), then start a dispute if/when they don't pay. I wish I had thought of that before I sent my reply saying that it was pick up only!
